Blog: Kathryn on Leadership

Cambridge is a beautiful city with a bright and promising future. The people are what makes our community great — dedicated, passionate, entrepreneurial, caring citizens who believe in our community.

I am honoured to call Cambridge home, and like you I care deeply about my neighbours and our collective future.

As someone who has worked, volunteer and raised a family in our community for 30 years and who has proudly served this community, I am motivated by a desire to work with the people of Cambridge to improve the lives of people now, and to secure a prosperous future for our children.

As your Mayor I will bring a style of leadership to city hall that is collaborative, one that harnesses the potential of our City council, city staff, business and community leaders. One that is based on harnessing our collective potential. One that is based on the idea that “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

My vision for a healthy, safe, connected and prosperous Cambridge will be achieved through working together to solve the challenges in front of us while at the same time, capitalizing on our community’s enormous potential.

I am running for Mayor because I want to continue serving this community which has given so much to me, and my family. I am running because fighting for Cambridge and its people has been my life’s greatest privilege. While working as a nurse I saw the opportunity to lend my passion, my voice to important community issues including Hospice services, heritage preservation, health and social services — and something I am very proud of the $187 million expansion of Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

As your Member of Provincial Parliament, I was fortunate to be able to achieve important investments in our community, and in its people. As a member of Cabinet, I championed local issues including investments in our nuclear and our auto industry that secured important local jobs right here in our community, for our community and for families here.

Working together we can achieve a great deal, and I will use every ounce of my energy, experience and passion to bring people together to solve issues of mutual interest and concern. My history of working with all levels of government, and across the aisle at Queen’s Park means that I have significant relationships with people who are in a position to invest in our community’s future. Relationships matter, and are at the root of positive progress.

I am excited at the opportunity to continue serving my community. It is a privilege to be in public service, and it will be my honour to serve as your Mayor.

The issues you see here reflect the priorities people have told me they care about. They are priorities I look forward to addressing with you, and on your behalf. If there is something you feel we need to address, I welcome your input — please feel free to contact me.

I am running so that I can fight for Cambridge, fight for you — and for all of us. I hope you will join me!

Sincerely yours,
